The battle for Aleppo is nearing the end as Syrian troops, backed by heavy air strikes, seize the final quarters of East Aleppo from rebels. They've been told to surrender or die. Swathes of the country remain in rebel hands. On Islamic State retook Palmyra on Sunday.
