England due to take on Italy at new stadium on Saturday
England and Italy will be alarmed to see the state of the pitch ahead of their World Cup opener in Manaus, after pictures emerged showing the playing surface in a shocking condition.
Just three days before the teams are due to meet at the new £173m Amazonia Arena, the surface looks dry and bare in places, with yellow lines running across the pitch. According to witnesses who have been inside the stadium this week, the ground is fully functional but not completely finished.
