Sara Bayman ready to make Thunder roll in new Netball Superleague season

With the new Netball Superleague about to tip off, England’s Sara Bayman, who plays for the champions Manchester Thunder, believes the sport can appeal to a broader audience

Anyone who has watched elite netball up close – that manic blur of fast hands and squabbling elbows interspersed with an icy stillness when a goal shooter or attack takes aim – knows how far removed it is from the stereotype of jaunty schoolgirls. But it is only when speaking to Sara Bayman, an England regular and captain of the Superleague champions Manchester Thunder, that you understand quite the levels of dedication involved.


“We probably train between 20 to 25 hours a week while holding down a job,” she explains. “A mixture of team sessions, weights and running. And that includes a lot of early mornings – the alarm is not my friend at 5.45am.”
