Gibraltar’s introduction to international football has been a bruising one, with the senior team suffering a string of heavy defeats in Euro 2016 qualifying, but their Under-16 side have brought the island the first footballing success of their new era in bizarre circumstances.
Gibralta U16s clinched the Uefa Development Tournament by scoring the decisive goal while their opponents Macedonia were otherwise engaged in prolonged celebrations of what they thought was an injury-time winner.
