Roger Federer beaten in Monte Carlo Masters third round by Gaël Monfils

• Frenchman knocks out Federer with 6-4 7-6 (7-5) victory

• Defending champion Stanislas Wawrinka also beaten

• Federer cruises through second-round match in 55 minutes

Roger Federer has been knocked out of the Monte Carlo Masters in the third round by Gaël Monfils.

Monfils’ 6-4 7-6 (7-5) victory was his second consecutive win on clay over the 17-time Grand Slam champion, following his straight sets win during last year’s Davis Cup final.
