One of the central figures in the federal sponsorship scandal has been sentenced to four years in prison. Jacques Corriveau is a former Liberal party organizer. He was convicted in November of fraud, forgery and money laundering, all relating to his role in the scandal that helped to bring down the Liberal government in 2006. The Crown asked for three to five years in prison. The defense wanted Corriveau's sentence to be served in the community. Jacques Corriveau pocketed about seven million dollars in kickbacks for contracts with the federal government.
