An opening blitz from Brendon McCullum (62) and Dwayne Smith (46) made light work of the Mumbai Indians’ total of 183, dealing out a fourth consecutive defeat for the hosts, as the Chennai Super Kings kept up their 100% record in this year’s Indian Premier League with a six-wicket win.
McCullum and Smith scored 90 in the power play – the second highest opening six overs in IPL history – with Mumbai’s left-arm spinner Jagadeesha Suchitch’s two overs in that period going for 33. When both openers eventually departed, to Harbhajan Singh, only 69 more runs were needed, with eight wickets and 72 balls remaining. In the end Raina’s unbeaten 43, from 29 balls with four fours and two sixes, saw Chennai home with 20 balls to spare.
